Are you the right person for the job?
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key attributes. Within the context of the responsibilities described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
Carry out Carpentry work as directed promptly and efficiently, ensuring that all allocated tasks are carried out to the required standard using effective work practices in accordance with legislation, Australian Standards, industry best practice guidelines and manufacturers recommendations.
Sound knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, machinery, specialised equipment and facilities used in the Carpentry trade and the ability to apply good trade skills in the workplace.
Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards, manufacturers maintenance, specifications and approved products for all types of timber and manufactured wood products, plaster and glazing systems.
Demonstrated ability to produce an effective work output in terms of both quantity and quality without direct supervision.
An understanding of the principles of quality as applicable to trade work and the ability to implement them in the workplace.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with staff from all levels of the hospital services exercising diplomacy and discretion in such interactions.
An ability to retain and recall ideas, details and directions and carry them out with minimal supervision.
Ability to provide supervision, direction and training to apprentices.
Qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements
Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
The minimum educational qualifications for this position are completion of an apprenticeship in Carpentry or other training that provides trade level qualifications as a Carpenter.
Additional skills in joinery, plaster, tiling, locks and passive fire would be an advantage.
A current Queensland Drivers Licence is preferred.
This position is graded as HBEA10, however there is an opportunity for an incumbent with advanced trade skills to progress to a higher level, subject to qualifications and a skills assessment.
